Four members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) died in a road accident along the Harare-Mutare Road on Friday, with three others sustaining injuries.
The accident occurred at approximately 1600 hours at the 45-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mutare Road near Broomley, according to a statement issued by the ZNA on Saturday.
The soldiers were travelling from Harare to Mutare in a BAW military vehicle when it was involved in the accident, resulting in the deaths of four members at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Warrant Officer Class 1 Philimon Chamisa, Warrant Officer Class 2 Chindowa Lydia, Sergeant Mundicho Wellington Wonder and Lance Corporal Mupemhi Edmore.
Three other ZNA members were injured in the accident and are receiving treatment.
Two of the injured soldiers were admitted to Marondera District Hospital, while the third was admitted to the 2 Referral Hospital at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KG6.
The ZNA said all three injured members are in stable condition.
“Zimbabwe National Army extends its deepest condolences to the families, relatives, friends and colleagues of the four members who lost their lives in this tragic accident,” the statement said.
The army also wished the injured members a speedy and full recovery.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police Marondera District Traffic Section is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The ZNA said burial arrangements for the deceased will be announced in due course.
