A tragic road accident claimed the lives of six people and left another six injured after a commuter omnibus veered off the Harare-Bulawayo Road and plunged into a deep, water-filled concrete gully on Wednesday night.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the accident in a press statement issued on Thursday, saying the crash occurred at around 10:00 pm on 29 July 2026 at the nine-kilometre peg near the Tynwald Rail Road Flyover, close to the Harare Drive junction.
According to police, the kombi, which was carrying 11 passengers, lost control before leaving the road and crashing into the gully.
The victims who died were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while those who survived are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Police said they are still working to identify all the victims and notify their next of kin.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a speedy recovery,” the statement read.
Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash, with more information expected to be released as inquiries continue.
