Andy Muridzo Bows Out with Final Album ‘Chakanyuka’

Afro-contemporary musician Andy Muridzo has announced that his upcoming album Chakanyuka will be his last, marking the end of a career that has spanned over a decade and earned him a solid following on Zimbabwe’s music scene.

The Dherira and Chidhafudhunda hitmaker shocked fans with a heartfelt Facebook post, revealing he no longer sees music as his life’s true calling. Muridzo said Chakanyuka would serve as his farewell to the industry, as he plans to transition into spiritual healing, a path he now believes is his true purpose.

“I never wanted to take music as my career, but one person I believe in most gave me the courage to move forward with my God-given talent,” Muridzo wrote. “After this forthcoming album, I will no longer take music as my career again.”

The 31-year-old artist expressed fatigue with the pressures of fame and constant public scrutiny. “I’m tired of this celebrity lifestyle; it kills you within. I tried being brave while being insulted by everyone, including people you call your own,” he said.

While his music has been celebrated for its emotional depth and fusion of traditional and modern sounds, Muridzo has also been a regular target for criticism, often over personal matters. He said the negativity has chipped away at his passion, despite his efforts to uplift fans through music.

“I sing from the bottom of my heart just to make you happy and well entertained,” he said. “But when I try, I’m insulted and given names which don’t suit me.”

Although many fans are disappointed by the news, Muridzo made it clear his decision is final. He intends to use his voice in more private spaces, especially at home with his children.

“I love music with my life, but here I have become small,” he said. “I think this is not what I was born to do. God help me locate my true purpose.”

Chakanyuka is expected to drop soon, and fans will likely embrace it with mixed emotions—celebrating the music, but mourning the departure of one of the most passionate voices in the Zimbabwean music industry.
