The woman was identified and traced using the registration number of the vehicle captured in the video, following a joint follow-up by Harare Municipal Police and Geo Pomona Waste Management officials.

According to the City of Harare, the offender was ordered to return to the site at the Kuwadzana Five Extension bus stop and collect the litter she had dumped.

She was subsequently required to deliver the collected waste to Geo Pomona Waste Management and was fined for the offence.

The City of Harare says illegal dumping is an offence under the Harare Anti-Litter By-law (2016), which prohibits the disposal of litter anywhere other than in a bin or designated waste disposal area.

“Harare Municipal Police will not hesitate to follow up on any offender where there is evidence of illegal dumping,” the City said.

The local authority urged residents to play an active role in combating illegal dumping by reporting offenders, including anonymously, to the Superintendent responsible for the Environmental Patrol Unit.
