Zimbabwe’s state-owned mobile network operator NetOne has launched the Mega National Clean Up Programme across several provinces as part of efforts to strengthen environmental management and community participation in national development initiatives.
The clean-up campaign was rolled out in different parts of the country including Harare, Bulawayo, Midlands Province, Manicaland Province and Mashonaland East Province with support from the Office of the President and Cabinet.
The initiative forms part of the national First Friday Clean Up Programme introduced by Emmerson Mnangagwa, which calls on citizens, companies and institutions to dedicate the first Friday of every month to cleaning their communities.
Through the Mega National Clean Up Programme, NetOne aims to promote environmental sustainability while strengthening collaboration between the corporate sector, communities and other stakeholders.
The programme saw the participation of thousands of NetOne-accredited airtime vendors, local authority officials, students, faith-based organisations and community environmental volunteers.
The telecommunications firm said the campaign also supports the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2, particularly in areas such as environmental protection, youth empowerment, stakeholder partnerships and responsible citizenship.
NetOne added that it will continue implementing Corporate Social Investment initiatives aimed at supporting national development goals and contributing towards building a connected and empowered Zimbabwe by 2030.
