The Avenues Clinic General Manager, Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu, has reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to world-class healthcare as the institution reopened its refurbished Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Obs and Gynae) Ward during a media tour on 29 September.
Ndhlovu told journalists that the reopening marked the fourth stage of the hospital’s extensive modernization programme, following upgrades to the surgical, medical, and children’s wards. She said the renovations were designed to ensure that patients not only receive treatment but also experience healing in a comfortable, modern environment.
“Today we are here in the Obs and Gynae Ward, which caters for new mothers and women’s health needs. To us, it’s a journey we have begun two-thirds of our wards are now complete, and we are moving towards finishing the rest,” said Ndhlovu.
She highlighted the hospital’s ability to handle a wide range of maternal and neonatal cases without referring patients elsewhere. “We’ve got a world-class I want to repeat this, you can quote me a world-class neonatal intensive care unit, the best in this country. Babies born as early as 26 weeks have survived here, and that is a testimony to our expertise and facilities,” she declared.
The Obs and Gynae Ward now houses 15 rooms, with four private and 11 shared spaces, as well as a nurses’ station, a ward manager’s office, and a specialist doctors’ corner.

Each ward is supported by a fully stocked drug room and an emergency drug cart for immediate interventions.
Ndhlovu thanked staff, management, the board, and shareholders for supporting the modernization drive, saying the project reflected both courage and determination. “Health is not an easy business, but with patience, care, and fortitude we are delivering. Our vision is to provide exceptional care, inspire healthier communities, and position The Avenues Clinic among the best in Southern Africa,” she said.
