A tragic road traffic accident has claimed the lives of six members of the same family in Zimbabwe following a head-on collision along the Harare–Masvingo Road, just before the Easter holiday period.
According to a press statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the fatal accident occurred on April 2, 2026, at around 0950 hours at the 246-kilometre peg near Masvingo. The crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Mercedes-Benz truck.
ZRP national spokesperson Paul Nyathi had earlier confirmed that six people died on the spot when the two vehicles collided head-on.
In a follow-up statement issued on April 3, police released the names of the victims, identifying them as members of the same family from Tynwald North in Harare. The deceased are Lilian Maranda Mujuru (40), Nokutenda Mujuru (15), Makanaka Mujuru (13), Ronald Junior Mujuru (11), Rufaro Shalom Mujuru (7), and Kayden Mujuru (3).
The ZRP has extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads during the busy Easter and Independence holidays.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
